Daily Care and Maintenance
of Your
Natural Stone Countertops
Don’t
be afraid of the stone and keep it simple! Cleaners
It is always the safest bet to use cleaners that are specifically
formulated for natural stone. They are ph neutral and are
safe for all stones. Other household cleaners should be use
for their intended purpose. Glass Cleaners are too harsh for
some stones and too harsh for most sealers. Detergent soap
will not hurt the stone at all. However, it will build up
a film over time that is difficult to remove.
Spills
Don’t let spills sit too long. If you notice a spill
blot it up. If a spill has dried up spray I with your stone
cleaner and let it moisten and loosen the spill. Either scrape
it with a single edge razor blade, or gently rub it with a
plastic scouring pad.
For really stubborn spills use either denatured alcohol or
acetone. These will not hurt the granite or marble. Wet a
paper towel with either chemical and wipe the spill until
it disappears.
Especially for marble vanity
tops
When cleaning mirrors, spray the glass cleaner on the rag
or paper towel rather than the mirror. The overspray from
the glass cleaner could etch the marble.
Don’t put any wet bottle (perfume, after shave, hairspray)
directly on the marble. Put your cosmetics and fragrances
on a separate tray that has felt pads underneath it.
Marble Kitchen Countertops are increasing in popularity. Keep
any acidic liquids off of the countertops. This includes fruit
juices and alcohol. |
